His first attempt was painting a 6 foot long Dragon for the school art show at the age of five. He later won a national drawing competition on the tv nature program ‘Look’ at the age of eight.
Latter he attended King Edward the Sixth Grammar School. Michael then studied Graphic Design at the Bournville School of Art. He had a love of travel which started on a school trip to Amsterdam at the age of twelve. This day he managed to get away from the rest of the class and explore Amsterdam on his own. This experience and subsequent trips with his family to Europe led to him doing the ‘Hippy Trail.
From England he went overland to India going through some amazing countries like Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Eventually the journey led him to Australia, a land he immediately fell in love with. He and his brother bought an old Kombi and explored Australia when it was still wild. A time when you could camp at the base of Ayers Rock and when you could discover completely untouched waterfalls and Gorges now overrun by Tourists.
